The Green Bench

Through times there have been sung a lot of songs about ‘a green bech in the garden’ (At least here in Norway), but chances are that it wasn’t just this bench it was all about, even if it may look tempting enough with its beautiful view! But things aren’t quite what they seem to be. At least not in a historic setting!
This bench, however, is located practically in the center of the charming City of Droebak (only 20 miles south of our Capital – Oslo) and for those fascinated by the view, you may see more of the City of Drobak if you activate this link!

But – let’s return to the romantic green bench with its lovely view? Things aren’t as peaceful as they might look. At least not in a historic setting!
Across the fjord (slightly to the right of the bench) you’re looking right down the gun barrels of the Fortress of Oscarsborg. This is exactly where one gray morning in 1940  the German battlecruiser Blücher with its entire crew was stopped and sunk! Enabeling the Norwegian King and his family to escape German captivity!
And wishing to take a closer look at this old fortress, you may find a full photo report here!

Please return me to INDEX for a new picture/destination.
