On My Knees

At times working in nature I’m shown an incredible trust from the smallest around.
Today it happened again! I was actually planning to shoot a sea of flowers on the banks of a small lake aand had lowered myself to a lowest possible knee level, when a lemon butterfly decided to land not too far away. So – perhaps the chance would arise to get a portrait photo?

Very slowly I tried to move myself a bit closer to him without releasing a small ‘earthquake’ – all the time on my knees . . .

But he was a rather quick worker using less than 30 sec. to empty a flower . . .
And slowly I managed to get myself a bit closer – and closer!

And when he moved, it looke like he preferred flower where I was sitting?  At any rate he came closer and closer to me as well!

You have, of course, only seen half of the pictures I shot of this guy, but the last picturen was shot at a distance of about 2 inches! Please click the picture into ‘full screen’ and meet Mr Lemon B. (He’s a trustful guy!)

(Compliments of SRB)
Please return me to INDEX for a new picture/destination.

  1. I am pleased this butterfly did not fly away after getting down close to take a photo.. 🙂 I crept up to a blue butterfly on a walk on Sunday, but it flew away before I could click.. 🙂 How on earth did you spot it? SO well camouflaged in among the celandine’s

I usually sit down before they appear. In 5 or 10 minutes they think I’m part of nature and I may spot them flying in. Then it’s a matter of moving very slowly, not casting shadows or creating a local ‘earthquake’. I start shooting at 1 meter just to make sure I’ve got something, but keep shooting closer and closer until they are getting really nervous! 🙂
Sometimes I’m allowed a couple of shots at 2 inches! (I’m accepted!) 🙂

Wow what a close up. He looks like a leaf. Great camouflage!

Thank you! You’ll find that most butterflies are very well camouflaged whilst keeping their wings up, but may attract the other sex bringing them down displaying their bright colors.

Ja at naturen viser deg tillit skjønner jeg godt!
