With a population of only 1387 people, the community of Rollag is even smaller than Flesberg, but it is located in the same valley – ‘Numedal’. There is only two main settlements in Rollag: Rollag and Veggli, the latter being the largest of the two.
Veggli church is a so called ‘long church’, erected in wood in 1859 and seats 160 people.
The city hall in Rollag is a relatively modest house compared to other municipal ‘palaces’ around the country.

An there is a library here . . .
And, of course, there is a local grocery store, but otherwise Rollag is more a ‘forest and mountain’ kind of community.
Well, there is a picturesque small camping site down by the river if this place should invite you for a visit? But mainly a good place to start if you want to go tracking, camping, fishing or hunting in the surrounding area?

The church is picture perfect – a picture one would find on a Christmas card. I can imagine how beautiful the church looks when it is in a snowy setting.
Like you said: ‘A Christmas card’!
That wooden bank is wonderful!
I love when big business gets rural 😛
Like in your part of the world? 🙂
I live in Bergen (keeping it english just to be inclusive on the internet).
Banks and stuff like that are usually large glass and metal buildings here, with a few cool exeptions.
I spent a delightful night in a stabbur at Rollag in the Numendal Valley last year. It is a memory I will treasure. I had dinner and breakfast at the old and former railway station, cooked by a Swedish chef
How delightful! So you’ve really been there?! It’ll give me an urge to go out finding you more things to look at. And yes, there are a lot of Sweedes finding work in Norway due to the similarities of the languages, allthough in some cases it may prove to be a barrier depending ‘where’ you live in the respective countries.
Yes I have really been there (to Rollag not Veggli) – and look forward to returning next year.
Her er også jeg godt kjent. 🙂
Numedal is a great and pleasant valley!.
