Bergknapp – Stonecrop

Today I present you with the ‘Stonecrop’ belonging to the ‘Sedum’ family! This is a succulent plant which store water in its leaves, extremely hardy and may grow just about anywhere. I have found specimen way up above 3000 feet, but have later learned that some cabin owner from this area once tried to build a ‘mountain garden’, and at least his stonecrops have survived! Exploring the spreading of this plant, I read that it in fact grow all over the place within the Northern hemisphere, but lately it has also been sighted some places into South America (Brazil) and at destinations in Africa!
The ‘Stonecrop’ belong into the Sedum-family entailing approximately 600 different types and with a color variety fra yellow, rosa, lilac, blue to red.
But – it’s also a valuable plant as it scores extremely high among important pollinators like the bumblebee, honeybee, flowerfly and butterfly, so – if you have a garden (without a stonecrop) – perhaps you ought to plant some? The rest will happen by itself! 🙂

Compliments of SRB)
Please return me to  INDEX  for a new picture/destination.

Once you place it on the ground, it will fix the rest itself and it will thrive almost anywhere!
And it’s decorative – covering barren ground without any help from anyone for years and years!

Beautiful and as you mentioned very important among the pollinators. Also, from my research, it is easy to grow in summer and autumn.
