The Wonder of Nature

He’s not among the largest aeroplanes in the world – only about 8 mm long – , but he ‘s able to perform tasks that no other flying machines can do! (With the exeption of a few other insects),  but the flowerfly may with ease remain poised at the very same postion in the air as long as he wants! A dragonfly or perhaps a hummingbird may do it, but among what we like to think of as advanced ‘flying machines’: None at all!

A popular child gets many names! 🙂 It’s fun to watch how evolution gradually make it look like wasp or bee in order to scare enemies off? But it has never hurt anyone!

What a stunning and crisp shot! I’d never heard of a Flowerfly until now. I did some research and the insect is also referred to as a Hoverfly. They are beneficial to gardeners and farmers because they keep the aphid populations low.
