The Mystery Building

We are opening the spring-season with a small quiz, but due to the carachter of this picture, this quiz will be open to ‘non-Norwegians’ only!
In the picture you may observe a rather special building, covered in Norwegian tile, and to give an idea of size, the front wall facing the river may be approximately 25 feet wide!
Please not the vertical windows that stretches practically from water level to the top of the building! But – what kind of building might this be?
Your suggestions are appreciated! 🙂 (Or would you be needing a hint or two?)

And in a day or two, we will, of course, give you and extra picture explaining it all!

Well, I tried to create a bit of  ‘Easter fun’ here, but even with a number of hints in a separate comment, nobody but two (only) of you ventured a guess. That’s OK with me, but- I won’t be using very much time in the future to create a quiz or anything related.
I may use my time elsewhere! But I promised you a solution: A public lavatory! Indeed!

Compliments of PMR)
Please return me to  INDEX  for a new picture/destination.

for – ‘ikke-nordmenn’

  1. I never would’ve guessed that.

Crazy answer! Wow. Well, I arrived this party late 😉 Beautiful structure though by the looks of your photograph. I thought it was a fishway but apparently not!

  3. I knew it was 5….. I was right after all 🙄

  4. It is either 1 or 2, if not then it could be 3, 4 or 5, failing that lets go for 6,7,8 or maybe 9 or 10. It has to be one of them! 🙂

You’re absolutely right, David! However, I’ve made a mistake in believing people would have some Easter fun with a small quiz that would cost them nothing, but besides you – only one ventured a guess to what this would be. So in the future I don’t think I’d bother . . .
But since I promised a solution, I’ll stick to my promise and publish one more picture later today. Probably nobody will bother to check it out anyway. But I tried!

I can see that you all need some solid hints? So here they are:
    1: Local Tourist Office
    2: A municipal ‘City Hall’
    3: A Starlight Observatory
    4: A Mountain Church
    5: Public Toilets
6: A municipal water testing station
    7: Tourist Hotel
    8: Mountain Nature Museum
9: A Fire Station (for Forest Fires)
10: A Restaurant dealing in Norwegian Mountain Cuisine

Please make your choice! You don’t even have to write in English. Just pick a number!

Perhaps, used in navigation purposes for watercraft?
