There are some moments in life you just can’t seem to predict and tonight was such a moment! I did, however, cast a glance towards west in order to determine whether there could be a colorful evening, but my eyes met only a wall of lead grey clouds. No chance!
Thus I decided to make dinner instead. I was well underway with this chore when my eyes happened to cast a glance through the kitchen window. Suddenly there was a slight orange reddish light -over the Eastern horizon! And since the sun always leaves us in the West also here in Norway, I rejected the idea of a sunset. Besides it was too late! But the light persisted and gradually became stronger! Like you see here in my first picture!
At long last I went into another room to get a glance towards the west.
From that moment on details became a bit fuzzy! But pictures were taken. Many pictures!
And in all possible directions!
It suddenly became so fantastic that I can longer publish 2-3 pictures like I normally do. Tonight I’m publishing 95%, leaving it to you to ignore the ones that you find boring?
Please remember that all photos are in ‘full screen’!
It’s not very often we may see colors like tonight.
As you may see from the surroundings, we’re shooting in all directions. The colors were all around us.
I enkelte øyeblikk foregikk det meste rett over hodene våre!
At some moments most of the color play went on straight above our headss.
Belive it or not, but this mighty color display was all over inside 10 minutes.
Then it all went black!
We had still more pictures, but – there has to be a limit even for this! 🙂
(Complimewnts of SRB)
Please return me to INDEX for a new destination.
Wow , yes that is even more dramatic. The colours are super!
Thought you’d like these! 🙂 And I haven’t seen anything like it since I shot them!
I know I said ’18 months ago’, but times move quickly, and these are actually from
Nov. 2016 which make them twice as old (30 months)
These are so incredibly powerful. We’ve never seen skies like this.
I thought so, and neither have I. And I live here (with a camera in my lap most of the time) 🙂
WOW… But what a Beautiful 10 minutes as the sky caught fire with such beauty.. So pleased you were able to capture it Svein.. 🙂 words can not give it justice xxx
Hi, Sue –
I should say ‘thanks’, but the I didn’t do much but shoot the pictures. Have a hard time describing it myself 🙂 , but it has happened before allthough not very often!
I think I would have stood there with open mouth and it would have been gone before I fetched the camera. LOL… So beautiful.. Amazing in fact xxx
Gaping will get you nowhere, Sue! 🙂
I always have my camera within reach! I never know when I might be needing it.
As this time!
🙂 haha.. good for you xxx
Amazing!
Thank you! Always keeping a sharp eye on the evening skies. 🙂
Wow, I’ve never seen a sky like that! Those colors are incredible, it’s like the clouds are on fire!
Yeah! Been raining ashes all day!
I’m joking, of course 🙂 It’s been a fine day, but I agree: It really looks like a real bushfire up there in the skies. It’s a fantastic sight, but it doesn’t happen to often.
But it has happened before! If you take a look at my top frame on Facebook you’ll see what I mean. https://www.facebook.com/svein.by.1
Oh my. Helt utrolig 😊
😊
Was there a fire in the east? Out here, it is usually dust that causes such light. But it is beautiful. some of the photos are incredible. What was the weather forecast that evening. Was there a lot of wind?
Yes, it became rather special. What alerted me was an orange ligth to the East. It spread and intensified (like you see in the first photo) The forecast for the evening was ‘cloudy with possible sunshine at times’, but since the time was past 3.oo pm there was not a ray to be seen in the West. The wind was zero! But – it might have been winds in the upper stratosphere. The clouds, however, wasnt the usual solid cloudbanks but kind of fluffy letting the sun to shine through and light up the entire cloudbanks overhead.
To obtain something like this, there are a lot of parameters to be filled. Among others the height of the clouds overhead. If they are lying to low, the sun will miss them entirely!
Last night everything seems to have been in place at the very same time! 🙂
That is serendipity!
That is a word I’ve never heard before! Please clarify! 🙂
It means when there a series of events that happen, or several thing happen together, to cause a happy or beneficial event.
Thank you! I guessed as much, but just to get a confirmation, I tried the Google Translator. They didn’t seem to know it either and it didn’t look like a typing error 🙂 ,
but now I know!
Glad to be of assistance! It is always fun to learn a new word. Is there an equivalent word in Norsk? ( I am learning some norsk in a group at the moment)
I don’t think we have. At least I cant’t seem to think of one just now?
So – you’re studying Norwegian? Great! Will you be moving to Norway at some time? I just came across a couple that did.
They seem to thrive?! Good luck with that!
No, unfortunately I won’t be moving to Norway anytime soon. I just have to visit like a tourist. I have visited five times but it will be a long while before I visit again so I have to content myself with practising snakker norsk og learer blogget dine!
🙂 So please be advised that my translations are NOT directly translated.
I’m only conveying the meaning in a more general way.
No worries. Jeg forstår.
Over på 10 min?
Almost confused, now. I really wonder the details, maybe you can learn in there why it was seen like that, can you? Thank you so much for your answer, this is extraordinary moment. Love, nia
Sending you a private mail.
Hi, Nia –
I’d be lying if I said this was an unique moment ’cause it has happened before, but it is a very rare occasion and mostly in winters, but – that is also a bit strange because today it’s not really ‘winter’. The temperature is plus 5 degrees C tonight! Another strange sight is that it all seemed to start in the wrong direction: In the East! That’s where the sun rises every morning! And still -æ in winter it usually rise somwhat further towards Southeast, whereas these lights started to appear towards the NorthEast. Nothing very normal about it! 😉
But now it is documented for everyone to see. Hope they like it ‘out there’?
Fantastic
Hi Birgit,
Yes it was, wasn’t it. And I nearly missed it if it hadn’t been for that peek out the kitchen window. 🙂
WOW! WOW! I haven’t seen something like that in my all life. So beautiful, no, beautiful is not enough for these moments, and I can’t find the exact word, maybe we should create a new word. No, not exaggerating! I am so glad to know that you didn’t miss these moments… But but how possible… like a science fiction! Not seems to me normal, for you? Fascinated me. Thank you so much, Have a nice night and weekend, Love, nia
