Oppdal kirke ble bygget som en korskirke i tømmer i 1651 og har 450 sitteplasser og ligger nydelig til i terrenget snaue 4 km utenfor Oppdal sentrum.
The Oppdal Church was originally built as a ‘cross church’ in timber in the year 1651, and seats 450 people. The church is located in a beautiful countryside nesarly 4 km outside of the Oppdal centrum.

Please return me to INDEX for a new destination.
I have been inside this church. It is fantastic. Did you go inside?

Unfortunately ‘no’!
This church is located a couple of miles outside of Oppdal and when nothing happens the doors are locked to prevent theft and such . . .

Ah. I see. I was lucky enough to be on a tour and be shown the wonderful wood carving by one of the Brothers who have the carving business. Their family carved inside the church. I will post some pics one day soon, and add a link back so you can see it.

It’s a simple yet very beautiful church, I think very typical of its time. 🙂

Yes, you’re probably right? The changes to a more modern form of churches started around 1970 here in Norway.
Before then, it was 50/50 with ‘cross churches’ versus ‘long churches’, but building materials have varied over a considerable longer period.
