OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMy ambitions was actually to present youy with pictures from the city of Moss today, but –
I was quick to recognize the the city of Moss has grown substantially since I was last there!
And that the parking meters in Moss do not accept Norwegian coins, eveen if this is an accepted currency throughout Norway. Not so in the parking lots of the city of Moss!
And there were no instructions how to use a bank card on these particular parking meters!
Thus I didn’t want to risk leaving my card within a parking meter in a city pretty far from home!  Unfortunately it’s not gonna be any photo report from Moss as of yet!
Instead I started on the other side of the bridge across the Moss canal:
At the island of Jeloy!

There is limited size to the  kind of boats that may sail through the narrow passage on the eastern side of Jeløy, but all forms of leisure craft traffic is quite OK!
Here a shot southwards through the narrowest part of this passage.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASom dere ser – idyllisk, men litt trangt!
As you can see – idyllic, but a little cramped!

But – then we are officially on Jeløya. It is a beautiful and quite large island with much culture . It has also a fairly large network of footpaths through a naturereserve that we will also investigate further.
On top of a small hill, we find Jeloy chapel with an accompanying quite spacious cemetery!
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAVi følger hovedveien over høyden og inn på Jeløya –
We follow the main road across the hill into the island of Jeloy
Here inside the Jeløya we find a number of  modern apartment buildings –
Her kan du faktisk bo!

Here inside – with beautiful garden and overlooking the Oslo fjord is a famous landmark of Jeloy Refsnes Estate‘!  Here you may even live yourself!  Refsnes Estate is today operated as an exclusive hotel!

We are located on the southwestern tip of Jeløya. In the background to your far right of the picture you can make out the buildings in the city ofHorten’ across the fjord.

Along the shoreline there has been established footwalks through a small reservation area. It’s open to everybody but with special restrictions on horseback riding and/or camping.
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERATvers over bukta ser vi Melløs, en bydel under byen Moss.
Across the bay we are seeing ‘Melløs’, a section of the city of Moss

It’s a nice sunny day and we are able to see even the archipelago outside the city of Tønsberg
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERALøvverket vil snart bli betydelig tettere . . .
Foliage will soon become considerably thicker. . .

It is a continuous  car ferry connection between the citiesHorten’ andMoss’.
Here we see a couple of the ferries meeting in the middle of the Oslo Fjord !

The islands in the far horizon is ‘the Bolærne’; a previous coastal fortress controlling the passage up the Oslofjord.

We are back in Sjøgata, not far from the bridge across to Moss. Here lies besides a marina also a small beach. . .
OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAEt veldig flott sted å bo. . .
A very nice place to live . . .

I hope you‘ve got a modest impression of Jeløya? And  we must hope that I at a later opportunity find a way to park a car in Moss centrum. It was not easy !

  1. Vakkert bilder! Lovely to see this area. The hotel looks inviting and I wonder whether the coastal fortress, guarding the Oslofjord, was the location for one the cannons that sunk the German warship, the ‘Blucher’, many years ago?

    • Seenorway says:

We had several coastal fortresses at the time: Bolærne, Rauer, Kopås and finally
Oscarsborg. The last one has its own presentation on this blog. (Please use the text widget)
All these fortresses were in agegement with the german flotilla, but it was the torpedo batteries of Oscarsborg that really did the job and sunk the Blücher.

  2. Beautiful shares my friend.. wishing you a Peaceful week.. Hugs Sue

  3. Mormor says:
