The Master of the Game

Allerede her aner jeg konflikten?

Canon TEST 002dOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAToday I need your honest opinion! I’ve bought myself a new camera: Olympus OM DEM-1,
and according to the advertisments its supposed to out-perform most SRL-cameras?!
Already here I sense a coming conflict: Of course, nothing can ever out-perform a modern full format SLR-camera! Or can  it? And because I’m no expert on my new camera as of yet, and because I’m primaily interested in finding out how each camera does the job without any participating on my part, I have done as follows:

Canon TEST 005dOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI’ve taken two pictures of the very same motive, one with each camera!  Both cameras have been set to the same preferance: Prioritized apparture (A) (f-8), but except for that – I’ve done absolutely nothing. No optimizing, no filters, no sharpening, no color saturation, nor any other creative settings! However, there might still be small differences in the frame itself due to the fact that my Canon 60D is equipped with a 18-200mm, whereas my new Olympus have only a 12-40mm lense.
The weather was optimum: Bright sun from a blue sky!

Canon TEST 007dOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI’ll be presenting a number of pictures in pairs, one from my old Canon 60D and one from my new Olympus OM D EM-1.  All pictures are marked with the type of camera used!
Kindly give 2 pts to an obvious ‘best picture’,  1 pt each in a draw and a zero to an obvious looser.  Hopefully you’ll end up with a stron indication as to which camera works best
up front?
Canon TEST 009dOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWhy have I gone to this step? Because my old Canon 60D with its lense weighs in at approximate 1950 grams around my neck, while my new mirrorless Olympus (lense included) weighs in at approximately 1000 grams!

Here it may look like the cameras have exchanged roles, but the marking is correct!
Nobody said this would be easy!🙂
Canon TEST 012dOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASom sagt: Deres ærlige oppriktige mening vil bli verdsatt! Men jeg respekterer at ikke alle vil ta del i denne  lille undersøkelsen. På forhånd ‘takk for hjelpen’!

As I have previously said: Your honest opinion will be greatly appreciated. However, I do respect that not everybody will want to take part in this little survey. Please accept my thanks in advance.

PS: I re-blooged this post of yours. V.

I prefer the Canon simply because the Olympus exaggerates the colors. I never like to see nature re-colored – it is very difficult to do it well. I am sure that many viewers will prefer the brighter photos. Mine is simply a subjective preference for the more subtle views of nature.

Thank you so much, Vera! Yes, I can see that the Olympus work much like you say, and it came as a small surprise too me as well. I can probably alter this simply by pushing a button, but ‘buttons’ were forbidden in this little experiment!
However, the Canon does give me pictures partly burned out (at times), so I alwayhs have to be a bit careful what I do. The Olympus gave me no such troubles! I believe it’s due to the fact that Canon hjas half a dozen focal oints around the center of the picture whereas the Olympus has something like 260 points spread throughout the frame?
It’s gonna be a challenging future (and a lot of fun)
