Frogner district ‘was originally a fairly large district in Oslo. In the east it borders downtown Oslo, in the west to Skøyen, to the south by Frognerkilen, while in the north bordering the districts Uranienborg and Majorstua. In 2004 it was made a district audit, and Frogner today also includes Uranienborg, Majorstua and Bygdøy, totaling 8.4 kv.km with a total population of 52,531 people (according to the census of 2012).
Because these neighborhoods becoming unmanageably large with respect to our photo-reportages, SN relate to the ancient boundaries when we divide up the town! Even then, it is impossible to show everything, and therefore our report appear as ‘a walk through the town’ in the hope that this will provide a useful impression of thye particular districts?
Her på Drammensveien finner vi bl.a. )
Here on ‘Drammensveien’ we find ‘The American Embassy‘, or ‘Fortress America’ as it is sometimes called among locals. Notice the solid steel fence, 8 feet high, that surrounds the Embassy! One would almost think someone had a guilty conscience? But the fact is that more and more embassies ‘walls inside‘ behind high fences and vegetation that prevents anybody looking inside. (What are they really doing?)
Her, like bak Slottet, ligger Norsk Nobelinstitutt!
Here, just behind the Royal Palace, is Norwegian Nobel Institute!
On the other side of the road we can look down the ‘Cort Adelersgt.’ straight down to the ‘City Hall Square’. To the right is ‘Scandic Solli‘ (Previously KNA hotel)
Here is one of the cities focal points: ‘Solli square’.
‘Drammensveien’ continues to the left, and straight ahead is the street: Bygdøy Allé.
A Norwegian artist (Jens Book Jenssen) wrote a song called ‘The chestnuts trees are blooming in Bygdøy Allè’ and it became an evergreen the most Norwegians have saved in their hearts.
På Solli Plass ligger også ‘Universitetsbiblioteket.
On Solli Plass is also ‘University Library.

We choose to continue along the Drammen road towards ‘Skillebekk’ . . .
And coming soon to a imposing address. As far as I recall it was ‘Rikstrygdeverket’ who once operated out of this building, but today this is the main office for ‘Skanska’ in Norway.
We have arrived at ‘Skillebekk’ and ‘Drammensveien’ continues through the city‘s embassy district’ towards ‘Skøyen’ –

In the back lies the Colorline Car Ferry for Kiel, Germany. Here by the pier one gets a changed impression regarding the size of this ferry.
In a small park at the end of ‘Frøya Rd. we fine the ‘Bergehus’. Bergehus is the administrative center of Sigval Bergesen , once one of the worlds largest tank shipping owners. What they work at in 2014, I really don’t know.

Vigelandsparken is a famous tourist destination in Frogner. This time we just stick our head inside, just to signify that this is part of the Frogner district, but for those who want a real tour of the Vigeland Sculpture Park here, please use this link!
Her befinner vi oss i Kirkeveien like utenfor Vigelandsparken.
Here we are standing in ‘Kirkeveien’ just outside the Vigeland Park.

Again we are in ‘Gabelsgt., but this time in the other end compared to previous picture.
‘Frognerveien’ winds its way slowly down toward the city center again
We’re back on the well known ‘ Bygdøy Allè again.
Yet once again we cross the ‘Niels Juelsgt.’ This time considerably further up the city.
Here we are at the absolute bottom part of the ‘Bygdøy Allé‘, not far from Hydro Park!
‘Kjent territorium’. 🙂
And here in Ruseløkkveien our trip ends, because now we are only a few hundred yards from the city hall square and / or ‘Aker Brygge’. We’re alsom on the borderline between the districts ‘Frogner’ and ‘Centrum’.
And for those whom have followed through on previous trips:
‘This is familiar territory’ 🙂

A very nice tour of a very civilized European city. Thank you.
Thank you, Vera. Are we really that different from other cities around the world?
But Oslo is definitely a ‘green city’! You could perhaps call it a ‘suburban city’?
No, you are not different from other European cities, but no American city has the charm of a European city. I was born and grew up in Turin, Italy, but I lived in the U.S. since 1960. I still miss Europe very much. Oslo looks good with the trees and all the green, but it is the capital isn’t? so it may have areas that are sub-urban, away from the city center, but it is a large city isn’t? and from what you show it looks very European to me.
Hi Vera,
Yes, Oslo is the capital of Norway, but compared to American cities it’s a very small city with approximately 620 000 people, even if it’s the largest city in Norway. Please remember, we’re only slightly more than 5 millions all together!
And I think it’s kind of related to size? In my younger days I visited cities like Savannah and Charleston and a number of small cities (about the same size) in the Mexican Gulf and – they looked charming enough to me. But I never got to like cities like Baltimore, Boston, Pittsborough, Philadelphia and the likes. They were all to big!!! As a tourist you never get in contact with their souls!
Yes, Oslo have a ‘city center (or a ‘downtown’, if you like) If you haven’t seen it already, I’ve made a photo report from that area too:
https://seenorway.wordpress.com/2014/05/25/oslo-sentrum/
And I think you’ll find it rather green all through ? 🙂
