Nes i Ådal

We are enroute to Nes in Ådal, a small settlement on the boarder between the counties Oppland and Buskerud, but actually it belongs in ‘Buskereud’ and is a small part of the community ‘Ringerike’.  Unfortunately the weather didn’t support my trip this time, but for those wishing to see Nes in Ådal in sunshine, I’ve succeeded in finding some more pictures on the net that may be seen here.
It’s also been a bit difficult to find out exactly how many people living here, as Nes in Ådal is only a small part of a much larger community.

Pictures 1057‘Valdresportalen’ ligger strategisk plassert her.

‘The entrance to Valdres’ is strategically located here. A cafeteria with good food and with capacity for handling larger arrangements when needed.

Just around the bend and we are in  Nes/Ådal!

Nes church is located a bit away from the road. The church is an ’empire-style, 8-sided church in timber, built in 1860 and seats 250 people.

Just outside of the church you’ll find a war memorial honoring soldiers from the Napoleon war.
Pictures 1062Et lokalt gårdsbruk ligger også like ved kirken.
A local farm is also located near the church.

This is the local nursing home: ‘Nes Care Center’, located in beautiful surroundings.

Across the road there are 7-8 special ‘care-units’ for people that may live ‘at home’, but may need medical support near by  oncce in a while –

Pictures 1071Coop sørger for at samfunnet har tilgang på dagligvarer –
Coop see to it that groceries are at hand at all times.

There isn’t all that much of commercial activity in Nes, but they do have a shop with antiques, a hairdresser and  pedicures.

This is the river ‘Begna’ which runs through the whole region of ‘Valdres’. Here it empties itself into lake ‘Sperillen’ which measures app. 37 sq.km.

A residental area well away from the road in beautiful surroundings in the middle of nature.

Pictures 1074Det burde selvsagt ha vært solskinn, men dere må bruke fantasien🙂
It should, of course, have been ‘sun from cloudless sky’, but sometimes you just have to use your imagination.🙂

Just now it looks kind of idyllic, but certain times of the year the water level may rise  by 8-9 feet in lake Sperillen. Then it’s quite a lot of water in these parts . . .

Where the roads leave Nes, another road cafe is located. Plenty of parking space and the food is excellent.

Thank you! Norwegian Heritage Society? Guess I got a ‘bulls eye’ here? That’s exactly why this blog was opened! There are approximately 5 millions Americans with a Norwegian heritage living throughout the Mid-West and in Canada! And it’s my guess that many of them would be interested to see where grandpa came from?

I’m overly grateful to you for any measure you may take enabling such people to find my blog. And I can’t promise anything, but if we were to receive mails/wishes for pictures from particular places in Norway, we would most certainly take a note of it and see what we might be able to do about it.
