Horten – Nykirke

In the northwestern part of the community of Horten we find a small settlement by the name of ‘Nykirke’. Not very big by any standard, 728 people live here,  but still big enough to have their own church!

Peder Anker Wedel Jarlsberg i 1769.

Nykirke church is estimated to have been built somewhere around 1100 AC, but the last written documentation found is from 1331 and its 800 year jubilee was celebrated in  the year 2000. An extensive restoration took place in 1686 and then again in 1952. The congregtion of today bought the church from count. Peder Anker Wedel Jarlsberg at a reduced price in the year 1769!Picture 517

Tvers over gaten fra kirken finnes et krigsminnesmerke over de fra Nykirke som mistet sine liv for Norge i 2. verdenskrig.

Across the road from the church there is a war memorial over those from Nykirke that lost their lives through the 2. world war.

Here is a picture from a residental area called ‘Klokkeråsen’ på Nykirke

Som sagt: Et lite sted!

And here from a residental area closer to the main road. As said: ‘A very small place’!
