Actually ‘Åmot’ isn’t much more than a ‘road crossing’ where the road starts that will take you into ‘Eggedal’ (also named ‘the artist or painters valley’). If you drive this road to the bitter end, you’ll end up in ‘Nesbyen’ in ‘Hallingdal’, but – let’s concentrate on ‘Åmot’:
Before there was practically nothing here but a small shopping center and a few houses.
Today there is a shopping center, church, bank, sports field, health center and a number of services; a settlement  where people live!

Picture 456Dette er hovedinngangen til shoppingsenteret.
This is the main entrance to the shopping center.

Across the road from the shoppingcenter lies a large grocery store (Rema) and the local bank (Sparebank 1 Modum)
Some distance from the main road lies the residential sections with modern villas as well as apartment buildings.
In the other direction lies a large combined business and apartment building.
Picture 457Det lokale helsesenteret er sentralt plassert i Åmot
The local health center is centrally located in Åmot.

Side by side with the health center we find the local sporting field which at times have been used for larger arrangements.

Then there is the church! It’s an unusual church as churches go. Åmot church was built in 1996 as a replacement for Åmot chapel  from 1904.

Every sunday coffee and waffles are served in the church.  The ways of God are inscrutable and the congregation always meet on time. Whether it’s the sermon or the waffles I do not know!🙂
Picture 461Bak kirken – litt oppe i skogen – ligger det lokale sykehjemmet ‘Modumheimen’.
Behind the church – a few hundred yards into the woods – lies the local nursing home:
‘Modumheimen’

Here the residents may enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in the garden, or they may take a stroll on idyllic small roads throughout the area.
Picture 463Og enda litt høyere oppe i åsen finner vi Rosthaug Videregående Skole.
And even higher up we find Rosthaug Secondary School.

Then I think we’ve been over most of Åmot in Modum, except possibly ‘Blaafarveværket’, which is actually a separate report which we hope to have ready for you on a later occasion.

Vår rapport fra Vikersund finner du her.

Reblogged this on My Blog and commented:
Crossings in life , are much peculiar who goes where and why ? Not sure. But we pass each other and nod or smile, but then..no more..a moment passed forever, captured only in picture..

Nothing happens here, yet everything happens from here..it is a node..a point where decisions are made..people approach and leave this point, with many thoughts. How interesting, are nodes, its not the physical quality only, it has a character a feel..its a vibe..and when I see it, I don’t know..but I think the two cars moving in opposite direction , makes me feel..that how life is, a moment and we pass..who goes where from that point, no one can record or even wants to ..but it is a fact, we pass it..locations , people, activities and nature. Thank you for the photos, it has a meaning..to me..it is a window to, ” See Norway “

Thank you so much for introducing Åmot with its interesting church. Never heard about Eggedalen as valley of the painters. It’s an interesting fact, too!

You’re probably in good company🙂 and I really don ‘t know how well that sits with everybody, but it’s a fact you may google. I have the pictures to publish a report from Eggedal, but, as you have probably heard, ‘ things take time’.
