This time of the year, there are usually a world cup championship held in Vikersund, which today is the biggest ski jumping hill in the world, boasting a world record of 251,5 meters (held by Anders Fannemel – 2015)
Vikersund is the adminstrative center of the community of ‘Modum’ in Buskerud. Not large by any measurement, but there are approximately 2900 people living there.
Her er rådhuset i Modum kommune, sentralt plassert i Vikersund.
This is the City Hall in the community of Modum, centrally located in the center of Vikersund.
Close by we find the Culture Center overlooking the lake – ‘Tyrifjorden’
Tvers over fjorden ser vi Tyrifjord Hotel
Across Tyrifjorden we may see the Tyrifjord Hotel
Sett fra den andre siden.
Seen from the other side!
Looking away from ‘Tyrifjorden’, we find the old Vikersund Railway station, which is no longer in active use. There are no more traffic on this line.
Outside City Hall we passed a memorial of Cristopher Hornsrud, a former leading personality within the Labour movement in Norwegian politics.
Moving down the street towards the center we pass one of the local banks: Sparenbank 1
En annen forretningsgård i centrum.
Here another busness adress in the Center of Vikersund.
In the lower parts of the center we find the shoppingcenters (See picture nr 1)
Here by the bridge is where ‘Drammenselva’ starts out on its way towards ‘Drammensfjorden’. In the lower part of the river, i.e. fra Hellefoss by Hokksund and down to the estuary in ‘Drammensfjorden’, it’s considered to be a very good ‘salomon-river’.
Si adjø til Drammenselva!
Say ‘Good bye’ to the Drammenselva’
Yes, it’s still ‘Drammenselva’floating down there, but we are somewhere different –
This is ‘Heggen church‘ which lies 2,5 miles south of Vikersund. Originally a roman ‘cross church’ from around 1200 ac, but later renovated and seats today approximtely 400 people.
Så hvor er vi nå? Nei, – ikke i en ballong –
So, where are we now? No, we are not in a balloon . . .!
Vi er her! Og hva slags merkelig bygning er dette?
We’re here! And what kind of strange building is this?
Well, to be honest, we are a couple of weeks to early!
But you are now standing on the very top of the largest ski jumping hill in the world!
‘Vikersundbakken’! And if you want back down into ‘normal life’, the idea is that you should strap on a couple of skies, point them downhill and let go 🙂
Be my guest!

A fascinating journey, Svein. ‘Vikersundbakken’ is awesome!
I notice that you have opened the original report! (Thank you! That’s the general idea!)
And then you must have seen exactly what the jumpers see looking down the track?
Imagine you were there, and that this was the only way down . . . 🙂
Great pictures! Love that shot of the church. 1200 ac?? WOW… it would be amazing to walk into such an old church… sit down and reflect upon all the souls that occupied that space over hundreds and hundreds of years.
We have our local church (300 yards from where I live) which date back to (I think) 1226
You better get over here 🙂
WOW…. that is surely on my bucket list! Someday I hope to visit 🙂
Make sure you have the time for a cup of coffee 🙂
You bet!
Vikersund lies at a modest 50-60 yards above sea level but the hill is not to be taken lightly 🙂
wow! when this is covered with snow, we can never imagine this shot at its bare.Beautiful view, the ascend and the space in front with greenery folding its arms and the lake/stream witness the fall..beyond a city with people who love peace and the mountains hig as it seems, touching the sky with clouds as a necklace..visit ” Vikersundbakken” is really inspiring.
